International Women’s Day 2021

“We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.” -IWD 2021
Did you know less than 25% of tennis coaches in Australia are women? We are proud to have 10 of these coaches as part of the Victorian Tennis Academy team and will continue to provide more opportunities for coaches and women in sport.
For International Women’s day this year, Bronte sat down with Judy Dalton to hear about her involvement as part of the Original 9 campaigning for equality in womens tennis. The Original 9 consisted of Judy Dalton, Billie Jean King , Peaches Bartkowicz, Rosie Casals, Julie Heldman, Kristy Pigeon, Nancy Richey, Valerie Ziegenfuss and Kerry Melville Reid and was supported by Gladys Heldman. These women built momentum that led to the formation of the Women’s Tennis Association WTA and inspired the fight for equal prize money.
